Lewisham Schools PFI : CABE appointed Design Advisor
Project value: £220 million, Completed 2012
Mark Dudek was appointed by Lewisham Schools PFI to act as their client design advisor, and liaison officer. Having gained PFI credits in 2005, they were approved funding to refurbish and re-build seven schools across the borough. Work included setting objectives for siting, massing, retention and development of natural features, planning the movement of pedestrians and vehicles to and across the site, and the production of ‘output specifications’. Brief organisation and room data sheets for the intended building works was also required, making reference to appropriate regulations and other general design guidance.
The work also covered specific issues around room adjacencies, curriculum and faculty organisation and pastoral care. An exemplar design for each school was produced in order to disclose key issues prior to the appointment of the main contractor.
